On a recent trip to the supermarket I was astounded by the cost of a bunch of herbs. I grow a lot of my own herbs, but the one herb that I just cannot seem to not kill is coriander, and so on my trip out I was shocked to find out that a mere sprig of coriander would set me back over $4. Wow!

Get green fingers
Don't buy herbs, grow them
A packet of seeds to grow herbs costs as little as $1.50 (depends on your variety), and a little seedling plant, doesn't cost much more at around $2-4. However, from a small outlay, you then get a growing herb plant to keep that will keep you stocked in fresh herbs with no further purchases required. If you've got a friend with an already established herb plant, then you could always ask for a free cutting to get you started.
As a further added bonus, when your own herb plant is blooming, you could do some cuttings of your own and create some potted herb gifts for your friends.
