If you're trying to save money, then a quick review of your bank statements once a week can reveal your spending habits, and give you some clear indications of where you've been spending too much money, and demonstrate where you can cut back. As a side note, it's also a good idea to look at your bank statements regularly so that you can see if you've been overcharged at any time, or have fraudulent transactions on your account.

What are you looking for?
Go through your bank statements checking your debits highlighting any outgoings that aren't related to bills and absolute essentials. If you are checking online, just keep a pen and paper handy to note down your 'luxury' outgoings for the week. What you are looking for is any debits from your account, that you perhaps could have done without. Ask yourself, have you been eating out too often? Have you been on one too many spending sprees? What could you improve upon for next month? From a quick look through your bank statements you can decide upon which spending habits you need to improve upon and put a strategy into motion to curb any bad habits you notice.
