Low on grocery money or have no grocery money at all? Then, do what is called a "pantry challenge"!
Basically, you take stock of everything you already have in your kitchen cupboards, fridge and freezer.
Next, it is time to meal plan with it. There are websites that are like God-sends for this. Go to either Supercook or Recipe Matcher and indicate which ingredients you DO have in your pantry, even if they do NOT seem like they would amount to anything.
With the click of a button, all kinds of recipes will appear for use of the unlikely ingredients!
Have a crockpot? Another superb way of using what you already have. With crockpots, it is so easy to throw in a little bit of this and a little bit of that and voila! Masterpiece!
Do a pantry challenge for a week or a month, whatever your circumstances. Pantry challenges do not require rocket scientists. All it takes is a little creativity.
I find making soup a great way to make use of odds and ends from the freezer, fridge and cupboard. I often pop my cooked vegetable soup in the blender and blend until smooth. I did this today and added some coconut milk I had popped in the freezer when I had some left over from a recipe. I heated it and served with some chopped chives from the garden and toast. It was tasty and filling.
