Two of the cheapest meals that can power your work day... pasta and/or potatoes!!!!!
Believe me, I have eaten whole grain pasta and will not do it again. Good ol' durem semolina can be good in moderation no matter what people say.

Potatoes are cheap and filling. Who can go wrong with a russet?

Both are on the Mediterranean diet!
Both are so versatile as you can have a million recipes for pasta and millions of recipes for potatoes. Just Google them or go on Pinterest! So, you can never get bored. Short on time? Use your crockpot for either!
For instance, on the pasta side, one may make pizza soup, pizza pasta casserole, spaghetti marinara or meat sauce, Cincinnati chili, mix-n-match skillet, vegetable soup, etc.
On the potato side, one may make German potato salad with kielbasa, fried potato wedges (occasionally), oven-fries, baked potatoes, potato soup, etc.
So, if the grocery money is low, you don't have to go hungry. Sometimes we forget the simplest of things.
